Plant-Floor Logistics
Inter-plant movement of parts and sub-assemblies. Returnable containers and dunnage trays engineered for closed-loop pools, repeated handling cycles, and plant-floor durability. Lot-traceable IDs for pool integrity tracking.
PTM engineers plastic dunnage, returnable systems, PPAP-ready components, and custom assemblies for automotive Tier 1 suppliers across U.S. and Canadian programs. All PPAP-ready, all ±0.05 mm tolerance, all backed by AI-vision QA.
Sourcing plastic into an automotive program is not the same evaluation as distribution. This page is structured for the procurement and engineering audience defending a Tier 1 or OEM specification.
Tier 1 strategic buyers and Tier 2 sourcing managers evaluating plastic supply partners with PPAP submission capability across stamping, assembly, paint, and trim programs.
Plant-level commodity managers consolidating dunnage and returnable packaging SKUs across multi-plant footprints, replacing single-use packaging or fragmented suppliers.
Supply chain managers running returnable programs that must survive plant-floor cycles, integrate with AS/RS automation, and route across OEM-Tier 1 logistics.
Innovation and reshoring leads evaluating USMCA-aligned North American suppliers with documented quality systems, ±0.05 mm tolerance, and engineering depth for custom-component programs.

What PPAP is, what the package contains, and how PTM operates as a PPAP-ready Tier 2 supplier.
PPAP — Production Part Approval Process — is the automotive methodology for documenting that a supplier's production process, not its prototype, consistently produces parts meeting customer specification. It is the evidence package a Tier 1 OEM requires before a Tier 2 supplier is approved to ship a component into a vehicle program.
PPAP requirements are defined by the AIAG reference manual and standardized across major OEMs. Tier 1 customers specify the PPAP submission level (1 through 5) appropriate to the part's risk profile.
A complete PPAP package documents 18 categories including design records, design FMEA, process flow, process FMEA, control plan, MSA, dimensional results, material and performance tests, capability studies, appearance approval, sample parts, and the part submission warrant. PTM produces the full data package for every automotive program regardless of submission level requested — only what physically transmits to the customer differs.
PTM operates as a PPAP-ready Tier 2 supplier because the documentation infrastructure was built before the first SKU shipped. Lot traceability links raw resin batch to ship date. AI-vision QA captures dimensional and surface data on every production unit at 99.94% inspection rate. Capability studies run continuously. When a Tier 1 customer requests a PPAP submission, the data already exists.
A returnable program that works is one nobody notices. Footprints standardized, cycle counts hold, pool integrity measurable.
An efficient automotive returnable packaging program optimizes three variables: footprint (does the unit load match your pallet, rack, AS/RS, and truck cube), cycle tracking (do you know which container is at which plant, on which trip), and dunnage standardization (single SKU serving multiple programs versus fragmented legacy variants).
PTM's Stackable Totes use 600 × 400 mm matched to AS/RS geometry. Armorpallet runs 100+ trip cycles in pool service. Compared to corrugated and wood, reusable plastic returnable transit packaging models lower TCO at four or more turns per year and qualifies on automation classes where wood does not. For fragmented programs, PTM Custom Plastics handles SKU consolidation, PPAP-ready.
Anonymized profiles from the active portfolio. Full case studies released under NDA during the engineering consult.
A Tier 1 stamping operation in the Midwest needed to standardize returnable dunnage across three plants running the same body-side panel family. PTM Custom Plastics engineered a single dunnage variant protecting the part profile across all plants, consolidated the pool to one lot-traceable SKU, and delivered the PPAP submission package on first attempt.
A Tier 1 interior supplier needed engineered clips and fasteners for a seat-assembly program with fixed launch date. PTM ran DFM, tooling, validation, and Level 3 PPAP on timeline at ±0.05 mm tolerance, with lot traceability live on first production.
A powertrain Tier 1 needed protective trays for machined components in plant-to-plant transit with AI-vision QA on every unit before ship. PTM validated to ±0.05 mm tolerance and integrated AI-vision at the documented 99.94% inspection rate.
An aftermarket parts distribution program needed a returnable pool surviving multi-year dealer cycles. PTM specified Armorpallet, 100+ trip cycles verified, lot-traceable IDs supporting warranty claim integrity. Standard portfolio, shipped continent-wide.
Documentation that travels with every automotive program. Each certification or standard listed below applies across the PTM portfolio and is provided in the per-program documentation package.
ISO 9001Quality management system certification. Documented procedures, controlled processes, internal audits, and continuous improvement loops that the PPAP package references as its evidence base.
PPAP-ReadyProduction Part Approval Process documentation capability. PTM produces the full 18-category PPAP package for every program and submits at the level (1 through 5) the customer requires.
NDA StandardIP protection by default on every custom program. Your CAD and IP stay yours. Work-for-hire is the default contract model; extended IP protection is structured into the contract before any CAD review.
ASTM D1185Pallet and crate test standard for impact and drop performance. The Industrial Pallets and Shipping Crates lines test against this standard; results are documented in the per-program submission.
Stated operationally, not as a sales angle.
PTM manufacturing in northeastern Mexico combined with U.S. engineering and logistics enables USMCA-compliant supply chains for North American automotive operations. USMCA rules of origin for automotive parts require regional value content thresholds that PTM's footprint and sourcing are structured to support. Specific origin documentation, including USMCA certificates of origin and regional content calculations, is produced per program during the engineering consult and travels with the PPAP submission package.
